Stories of Power, Conflict & the Human Condition
A collection of my investigations, field reports, political analysis, and essays exploring conflict, human rights, politics, and social change in Lebanon and the wider Middle East.
A Note on This Collection
This portfolio features a curated selection of my published work, organized by subject and reflecting the range of stories I've covered over the years. It is not an exhaustive record of my reporting. My complete publication archive can be found at the bottom of this page.
Beyond the Ceasefire: War, Diplomacy & Uncertain Peace
A ceasefire does not necessarily mark the end of a war, especially for communities living along a contested border.
This collection follows developments in southern Lebanon throughout 2025 and 2026, documenting Israeli military operations, the political and security consequences of continued hostilities, and diplomatic attempts to negotiate a fragile stability.
Through field reporting, political analysis, and coverage of Lebanese-Israeli negotiations, these articles examine sovereignty, territorial control, international mediation, the future of UN peacekeeping, and the competing interests shaping decisions on the ground.
Beyond military developments, they follow the people living with the consequences of an unresolved conflict: families struggling to return home, villages facing destruction, and communities caught between promises of security and the persistence of violence.
Featured Articles
Selected field reports, political investigations, and analyses examining the realities of conflict and the struggle for stability in southern Lebanon.
A Country at War: Frontlines, Displacement & Survival
The 2024 war in Lebanon transformed villages, displaced communities, destroyed livelihoods, and raised urgent questions about the country's political and humanitarian future.
This collection brings together my reporting on the conflict, from developments along Lebanon's southern border to the experiences of civilians confronting displacement, destruction, and the uncertainty of return.
Through eyewitness testimonies, field reporting, political analysis, and investigations into the war's humanitarian and environmental consequences, these stories examine the conflict beyond its immediate military dimensions.
They document what war takes from people, how communities respond to extraordinary circumstances, and why its consequences continue to shape lives long after the headlines move elsewhere.

AFTERMATH
Syria Beyond the Headlines
Syria's story extends far beyond its battlefields, its political leadership, and the international negotiations surrounding its future.
This collection explores Syrian political and social developments, the consequences of years of conflict, questions of accountability and justice, and the challenges of political transition and reconstruction.
It also examines Syria's relationship with Lebanon, where geography, migration, political interests, and shared histories make developments across the border impossible to separate from domestic realities.
Through political reporting, analysis, and stories centered on affected communities, these articles consider how societies navigate the aftermath of authoritarian rule and conflict, and what political change means for people whose lives have been shaped by both.
Beyond the Headlines: Ideas, Arguments & Reflections
Not every story can be contained within the conventions of a news report. Some demand interpretation, argument, and a closer examination of the ideas shaping public life.
This collection brings together my opinion pieces, political commentary, and essays on conflict, identity, power, justice, and the contradictions of contemporary society. Moving between political analysis and personal reflection, these writings examine the assumptions behind public debates, question established narratives, and explore the relationship between individual experience and collective realities.
They reflect a different dimension of my journalism: one that seeks not only to document events, but also to understand what they mean, why they matter, and what they reveal about the societies we inhabit.
Where Environmental Destruction Meets Political Responsibility
From the environmental consequences of war in southern Lebanon to climate change, pollution, and agricultural challenges, my reporting explores how environmental crises intersect with politics, inequality, and human rights. Through investigations, field reporting, and expert analysis, these stories examine who bears the cost of environmental destruction, who is responsible, and how it shapes the lives and futures of vulnerable communities.

The Right to Speak, Exist & Be Protected
Rights are often most fiercely contested when they challenge existing structures of political, social, or institutional power.
This collection examines freedom of expression, press freedom, censorship, surveillance, LGBTQ+ rights, and the rights of migrant domestic workers, alongside the broader struggles of marginalized communities seeking recognition, protection, and justice.
Through investigations, interviews, and legal and political reporting, these stories document abuses, question discriminatory practices, and examine the gap between the rights guaranteed on paper and those exercised in everyday life.
At their core is a recurring question: who gets to enjoy fundamental freedoms, and who is expected to fight for rights that should never have been conditional?

A Generation Between Political Change & Departure
What does political participation mean to a generation growing up amid economic collapse, institutional mistrust, and limited opportunities?
This collection examines elections, youth political engagement, civic movements, electoral integrity, and migration, exploring the relationship between political representation and the search for a future.
From electoral campaigns and political accountability to youth-led initiatives and the pressures driving people to leave their countries, these stories investigate how younger generations respond to systems that frequently exclude them from meaningful decision-making.
They explore political participation not simply as a matter of voting, but as a broader struggle over belonging, opportunity, public trust, and the possibility of building a life without having to leave home.

The Human Cost of Economic Failure
Economic crises are rarely experienced through statistics alone. They are felt in the price of food, the closure of a school, the loss of a job, and the daily calculations families make to survive.
This collection examines socioeconomic inequality, poverty, economic insecurity, labor conditions, and the deterioration of essential services in Lebanon.
Connecting policy decisions and institutional failures with their consequences for ordinary people, these reports investigate how economic vulnerability intersects with class, nationality, gender, and access to public resources.
Rather than treating economic hardship as an abstract crisis, these stories explore the systems that produce and reinforce inequality, and the unequal ways in which societies are made to absorb the consequences of political and financial decisions.

Beyond the Headlines, Beyond the Stereotypes
Women's lives are often narrated through the crises they endure, the expectations imposed upon them, or the roles society assigns them. Yet their experiences are far more complex than the categories through which they are so often represented.
This collection brings together my English-language writing for Missing Perspectives, exploring women's experiences through storytelling that places individuality, agency, and lived realities at its center.
Moving between questions of identity, gender, conflict, social expectations, and personal autonomy, these stories seek to understand women beyond the familiar narratives of victimhood and resilience. They are interested in how women experience the world, negotiate its contradictions, challenge the limitations placed upon them, and define their lives on their own terms.
At the heart of this work is a belief that women's stories should not be confined to what they have suffered, but should also make space for their ambitions, choices, relationships, and the complexity of being human.

Lives in Limbo: Borders, Belonging & the Right to Safety
For refugees, crossing a border does not necessarily mean escaping insecurity. Sometimes, it means encountering new forms of exclusion, uncertainty, and vulnerability.
Drawing on years of reporting on Syrian refugees and displaced communities in Lebanon, this collection investigates forced deportations, arbitrary restrictions, evictions, discrimination, legal insecurity, and barriers to education, healthcare, and essential services.
It also examines the politics of migration and return, the role of Lebanese state institutions, and the responsibilities of humanitarian organizations and the international community.
Combining firsthand testimonies with investigative reporting and legal and political analysis, these stories document the lived consequences of migration policies and the competing interests shaping them.
Above all, they ask what protection means when a person's right to safety, dignity, and belonging remains subject to political negotiation.

Behind the Inequality: Gender, Power & the Fight for Rights
My earliest reporting began with questions about violence against women, inequality, and the social and political structures that allow injustice to persist.
This collection brings together my Arabic-language reporting for Al-Modon on women's rights, gender-based violence, discrimination, and the institutional and societal forces shaping women's lives in Lebanon.
Through investigations, political and social reporting, interviews, and analysis, these articles examine the relationship between gender and power, from legal protections and accountability to the consequences of economic hardship, conflict, displacement, and deeply rooted social inequalities.
Rather than approaching women's rights as an isolated social issue, this work examines how gender intersects with politics, class, justice, and the distribution of power. It asks why violence and discrimination persist, how institutions respond to them, and whose interests are served when accountability remains elusive.
These are stories about women, but also about the laws, systems, and political choices that determine the extent to which equality and protection become realities rather than promises.

When Institutions Fail: Rights, Responsibility & Accountability
The effectiveness of a state is often measured not by its political promises, but by the institutions people rely on every day.
This collection examines public governance, education, the judicial system, detention, legal accountability, and the relationship between citizens and state institutions.
From conditions inside Lebanese prisons and controversies surrounding judicial decisions to the deterioration of public education and inequalities in access to essential services, these reports investigate how institutional failures affect people's rights and opportunities.
Through political reporting, investigations, interviews, and policy analysis, they explore the distance between laws and their implementation, the consequences of weak oversight, and the struggle to make public institutions accountable to those they are meant to serve.

Culture, Identity & the Stories We Tell
Art and culture offer ways of understanding societies that conventional political reporting cannot always capture.
This collection explores literature, visual arts, creative expression, cultural identities, and the relationship between individuals and the places they inhabit.
Through interviews, profiles, cultural reporting, and essays, these stories examine how artists, writers, and creative communities respond to political change, social expectations, conflict, and collective memory.
They also explore the relationship between culture and everyday life, including the ways people express belonging, challenge inherited assumptions, and preserve experiences that might otherwise disappear from public memory.
Beyond artistic production itself, this work is interested in the social and political worlds that shape creativity, and the ways creativity can help us understand them.
